Korbyn is finally Here!

October 23, 2008 started off bright and early with A LOT of excitement in our household! I was scheduled to be induced at 6:30 am. Silly me thought that would mean i would be all hooked up and atleast starting to go into labor by around 8 but thats not exactly how things went...
They put me into one of the overflow rooms and hooked me up to a monitor. Little did i know i was having contractions but couldnt feel them. I could feel tightening on some of the bigger ones but no pain so the nurse called my doctor and he said just to have me walk around and drink some fluids to see if it would progress on its on. Well, that didnt work and i was getting frustrated. Both of the delivery rooms were full...one with a girl who had been there since 6:30 the morning before and one that was scheduled to be induced at 10:00 that day...that made me extremely irritated and mad that they had that room empty until 10 and could have put me in there before her! Finally the doctor came in at 12:oo and checked to see that i was dilated at 3 cm so he broke my water. As soon as he broke my water, like not even a second later, i started feeling the contractions!!!!! it only took about an hour of cramps and pain that i knew i wanted my epidural already!! Only there was another problem...the anesthesiologist was in surgery downstairs and he couldnt feel. That meant i had to wait for the other guy to come from Tri-Cities. That was the longest 45 minutes of my life!!! They moved me into one of the delivery rooms cus the girl who had been there since the morning before finally had her baby. So at 3 i had my epidural, was in the delivery room...which was A LOT nicer, and was very comfortable!
at 5 i was dilated completely to 10 and was ready to push. My doctor wanted Korbyn's head to be a little lower before i started pushing so we waited a while. He was laying completely on my left side...im not even kidding it looked like i had a huge tumor on the left side of my stomach and then the right side was flat! They put a pillow under my left hip to try to get him to slide over towards the right. As soon as they did that i could feel everything on my right side and i knew that something was wrong with the epidural. But of course the nurse and my doctor kept saying no no ur pelvis is just opening up on the right side...its just stretching cus the baby is moving over. Well after i had korbyn i found out for the anesthesiologist that sometimes when you get to a certain pain threshold the epidurals can stop working on some of your nerves...for me it was my whole right side!
At 6:30 i started to push. We all thought ok they waited to make sure his head was pretty low and ive been dilated completely and thinned out for a while now so it should just take a few pushes and he will be out. Once again, that was NOT the case! 3 and 1/2 hours of PUSHING later the monitor that was keeping track of Korbyn's heart rate stopped working. They had no way of knowing if he was in trouble and since id been pushing for so long and was almost completely exhausted they decided to get the suction cup and try to use that to help him come out while i pushed...it came off his head twice and the doctor finally had enough and had to use the forceps to pull Korbyn out. Of course no one was telling me what was going on so that i wouldnt freak out but i knew something had to have been wrong cus i could feel everything he was doing and its not very fun having big huge metal clamps go inside you to pull a baby out!!!

In the end it was all worth all the pain! As soon as i saw Korbyn all the pain i had just felt completely vanished and i still cant completely remember it. He weighed 8 lbs 5 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. He also has pretty big hands and feet! Hes got the whole wider chest and shoulder football player kinda look going on already! He is the sweetest most beautiful baby ive ever seen in my whole entire life...although im sure any mother would say the same thing about her child.

Kody was great through the whole process. He wasnt expecting it to take so long...all though none of us expected 3 1/2 hours of pushing!!!!!!!!! He really was great though he stood by my side the whole entire time, held one of my legs and back while i pushed and helped me stay focused. I did get a little irritated at him towards the end but i think i would have been annoyed by anyone other then the nurse and doctor who was next to me at that point. He cut the cord when Korbyn came out and stayed by my side and held my hand the whole entire time the doctor was sewing me back up even though that meant having to wait a little longer to see his son while the nurse cleaned him up and did all the measurements and stuff. The next 46 hours while i was in the hospital he waited on me hand and foot and made sure i had everything i needed and that i was comfortable.

It turns out that that same night after i had Korbyn until 6:00 am the next morning 5 other babies were born at Prosser Memorial Hospital. That was the busiest they had ever been in the birthing center and all of the recovery rooms were full. So a total of 7 babies were born within less than 24 hours of eachother!!! I felt sorry for the nurses they must have been extra busy!!!!! Although both of the nurses that helped in delivering Korbyn were extremely helpful and seemed to always make time to come and help me. One of them, Barb, was off the next day but came back and checked up on Korbyn and I and made sure we were doing good and comfortable. The other one Sarah was a complete Angel! She helped me soooooo much even though i know she was extremely busy. She stayed in the room for hours with us just talking and helping with Korbyn. I really was blessed to have such great nurses and Doctor.
