Korbyn & Mason!

My friend Heather's baby, Mason, had his 1st birthday party on Sunday. Heather gave me most of the newborn and 0-3 clothes that Korbyn used. That was the first time she saw Korbyn at all and the first time i saw Mason since he was about 6 months because they moved to Spokane. Well, Korbyn and Mason both weigh 21 lbs and both are wearing size 12 months. Of Course Korbyn feels heavier because he doesnt move around like Mason does when you pick him up. My baby is the same size as a 1 year old and its not that Korbyn is chunky he is just very wide and looks like a linebacker! Of course his cheeks are like chipmunks though.

4 Month Shots

Today Korbyn had his 4 month shots. He did a lot better then the last time he had his shots. He just cried for maybe a minute and then was fine again. Althought today he has been very snuggly and wanting to be held. Thats not Korbyn at all! He is very independent and the only time he will let you snuggle with him is if he is asleep or falling asleep.

He weighed in at 21 lbs so he still has 2 lbs before we have to switch him to his big carseat. Its so much easier right now with the one that i can just carry about. It will be a big adjustment to use the other one since it stays in the car! He is 27 inches long. He is over 100% in weight and for length he is in the 97% so he is def my big boy!

Applesauce...or not!

Korbyn isnt too fond of the taste of rice cereal! After his first spoon he usually pierces his lips together and grunts really loud when he sees the spoon coming towards his mouth again. I tried adding some baby applesauce to it and LOVED it!!!! He kept opening his mouth for more as if he couldnt get enough! I usually give him 2 or 3 little spoons and then give him a drink of his bottle...he didnt want his bottle, just APPLESAUCE!!!

After he was done eating he was extremely hyper. Korbyn is already a very active and wild baby but HOLY COW! This kid was going crazy!!!!! I put him on his bouncy chair and he was kicking so hard he almost flipped the whole thing over! He got one of his legs over the toy bar and way laying sideways though. He also rolled over for the first time by himself on the floor. (not including one time when he was about 3 weeks old and managed to get from his back to his belly) He can roll over on beds and softer surfaces but not on the floor. He gets sideways but not completely rolled over. He hasnt done it again since then so i am sure that the applesauce made him a little wired up!

A couple hours later he was really cranky and seemed like he was in pain. I wasnt sure if it was from the apple sauce or teething. He is getting his 2nd tooth in. I tried the apple sauce again the next day and he was a little cranky...not as bad as the first day but since im not sure what the problem is im just going to wait a few weeks before i give it to him again in case it is his stomach.

1st TOOTH!!!

Korbyn will be 4 months in 5 days and he just got his 1st TOOTH!! I got my first tooth when i was 4 1/2 months so im not suprised! Korbyn is definately growing up WAY too fast. He has been teething for about a month and on tuesday night i thought it had broken through his gums but looking closely...wich he didnt like too much...there was still a little bit over it. Wednesday morning is when it finally broke through all the way. Its so cute! You can hardly see it but its there and very sharp! He grab my finger and puts it right on his tooth and bites down super hard! It wont be long before his tooth next to it will come in as well. Babies always look so cute with just there two lower teeth!

I had to take pictures even thought i couldnt get any of the tooth!

He also LOVES standing up on his own on the couches. He thinks its hilarious when he falls over! He tries to take steps forward and i catch him and he laughs so hard it sounds like he is about to choke!

Perfect Valentine

Happy 1st Valentine's Day Korbyn Lee!

Korbyn bought me some chocolates for our first Valentines Day together (or more like Grandpa Jim bought them for Korbyn to give to his mommy!) Out of all the 21 Valentine's Days ive been alive i have finally found my Perfect Valentine! I Love You Korbyn! (I tried to give him a mohawk...as you can tell his hair isnt quite long enough yet.)

Uncle Josh finally got to come home and meet Korbyn for the first time! Korbyn LOVED him!!!!!! He has issues with being scared of men...he gets scared of my Dad, Uncle Bubba, and Grandpa Rich...but he absolutely thought my brother was the best thing since formula!!! I think Uncle Josh thought Korbyn was pretty cool too :)

My Aunt Sandi, Uncle Ron, and cousin Jason also came out on Valentine's Day from Lewiston, ID. Aunt Sandi and my cousin Jaala had come out for a weekend when Korbyn was younger but Uncle Ron and Jason hadn't met him yet. Korbyn had lots of new faces to stare at this past weekend!! Jaala was in Boise visiting her boyfriend at college so she didn't come but im sure she will be suprised to see how much Korbyn has changed from the pictures.

Time for Cereal

Today was the first day that Korbyn had something besides Formula!!! (and apple pedialyte when he was sick) Dr. Lane said he can start anywhere from 4-6 months on rice cereal but i decided that he was ready now to start trying it. Hes not quite 4 months yet but he is ahead of everything developmentally wise and def. weight and height wise!! He did suprisingly well being spoon fed.

I think next time ill sit him on something other then his bouncy chair because he just kept trying to play on it even though i took the toy bar off.

He kept making faces like he didnt like it but the more i gave him the happier and more interested in it he was. I eventually but the rest of it in a bottle with some more formula and he drank it.

He is also officially strong enough to sit in his Bumbo!! We keep trying it like once or twice a week and then today we went for a walk and when he got back it put him in it and he had a blast and did really well sitting up without his head slouching forward.

The only problem is its hard to get him out of it because his legs and butt are so chunky that when i go to pick him up the chair comes up with him and i have to pull it off of him to get him out!!!!!!!!!!

Teething & the Thumb

Korbyn is def. a thumb sucker. Hes started trying to figure out how to get his thumb in his mouth when he was a little younger then 2 months. He would get it sometimes but other times it would just be too frustrating. He figured it out about 3 weeks ago but the problem is that his hands are so huge!!!!!!! He gets his thumb in his mouth but he doesnt know what to do with his other fingers. They usually end up either up his nose, on top of his nose or just covering his whole face about to poke his eyes out.
He has been doing it A LOT more lately. He will just spit out his pacifier and stick his thumb straight in his mouth. Turns out he hasnt been sucking on his thumb as much as he has been chewing on it. His lower gums are swollen and i can feel his two lower teeth in the front right underneath his gums. He was pretty cranky today and the teething tablets didnt help at all! It shouldnt be too long before my baby has his first teeth!!!

Play Pen

Korbyn keeps getting better and better each day. He doesnt mind having to use the nebulizer at all!!! (im so glad!) He was fighting using the one at the hospital but the one that they sent us home with he doesnt mind. He just sits there patiently...minus a couple times when he pulled apart the piece you put the albuterol in...until its over and then starts playing again or falls asleep. I took him to see Dr. Lane on wednesday and they said he looked better already but we still had to keep giving him the tylenol and motrin or his fever would come back. This morning and last night was the first night i didnt have to give him the meds as soon as he woke up. He lasted until about 10:00 before i had to give him motrin because he was starting to feel warm. He is still not breathing 100% but he sounds MUCH MUCH better then sunday night. Hes playing like his normal self and all smiles again so thats good. The bad part is that he gave the cold to me!! RSV is just a cold in adults but can be very serious and fatal in babies. Today is the first day since Tuesday that i actually dont feel too bad.

Last night i decided to FINALLY set up Korbyn's play pen. I took it out of the box and assembled it when i was pregnant but Korbyn has never used it let alone seen it! He took about a 30 min nap in it from 9:45-10:15 last night...that kid will not sleep alone!! Im leaving it set up and im going to train him to sleep by himself!!! Ive said that before and it last about a day or 2 but this time i am serious! I think if he could sleep by himself he would sleep longer at night. He usually gets up anywhere from 4:30-6 in the morning and then goes back to sleep until around 8. It will be much easier on both him and I if he can sleep on his own by the time i go back to school.

2nd Trip to the Emergency Room

Yesterday was quite an eventful day!!!!!! Korbyn and I went over to hang out with Gramma Heidi and Great Gramma Jeanne while all the guys went to the Grandpa Rich's to watch the superbowl. Korbyn had been fine since we took him to the ER earlier that morning. At about 6:30 he started coughing really bad again and his face was bright red and almost turning purple he was coughing so hard and gaging. Then at a little before 7:00 i noticed that his face was getting a little red and he kind of started rolling his eyes like he was going to fall asleep but he was WIDE awake. He did this the other day when his temperature was 100.5 so we decided to take him temperature. The only thermometer that i have been able to get an accurate reading with is a pacifier-thermometer. So, Gramma Heidi gave it to him and i went in the other room to go make a bottle. I could hear her saying he had a fever from the other room so i came back in and his temp went all the way up to 101.9 and then he spit it out so it could have been even higher!!! Dr. Lane said to always bring him into the clinic or the hospital on weekends if his temp is 101 or above. So we went over to the Emergency Room AGAIN! This time the nurse that checked him into the ER said his left lung sounded crunchy. Dr. Christensen came and looked at him and did a much more thorough job at looking at him then Dr. Case did that morning. She saw that he had ear infections in both of his ears and his throat looked red too. His stomach above his ribs were sucking in like it was hard for him to breathe, his oxygen level wasnt too low but just below normal so they took his blood and put an IV in his little hand. They tried it in his right hand and it didnt work so they tried again on his left hand and got it in. Then they did an RSV swab in his nose. I thought they were just going to get it from right inside his nose but they stuck this long skinny q-tip looking thing WAY up his nose!!!!!!! Then he went for a chest X-ray. I was the only one that went in for the X-ray with him since i had to hold his little hands up for them to put this plastic tube thing around him for the picture. Then we all went back to the room and found out that they couldnt get a positive or a negative on his RSV swab so they had to get a lukey tube that basically gets shooved way up his nose with a bunch of saline drops and sucks all the mucus out of his nose. Then they sent that in and it came back positive for RSV. They did two breathing treatments with the nebulizer while we were there too (we got there at 7:00 and left at 11:30).

Poor Baby has to be on Amoxicillin for 10 days, tylenol every 4 hours, motrin every 6 hours, use a nebulizer with albuteral every 4 hours for 2-3 weeks as well as using the cool mist humidifier at night and putting saline drops in his nose and suctioning out all the gunk in his little nose.

The only good part is that he wont remember anything that happened at his little Emergency Room visits. The only way we could get him to calm down was to give him some pedialyte. He drank 6 bottles of it while we were there!!! Im sure he was happy to get some besides formula for once. Korbyn was the third baby that had come in with RSV to the Prosser Hospital that weekend. One of the others was in the room next while we were there. We are lucky that we caught it when we did though because a lot of babies (like uncle bubba when he was 6 months) have to be hospitalized for RSV and there are 3 babies in ICU at the Sunnyside Hospital with RSV right now.

This is Korbyn the morning after we got back home. Im sure he had forgotten all about the night before! The bandage is from where the IV was. Mommy had to take some sort of picture to remember his 1st...and 2nd trip to the Emergency Room and first illness.

1st Trip to the Emergency Room

Korbyn went to see Dr. Lane on Friday for the cold he started to get on wednesday night. He had told us that it was just a virus that will go away on its own and to use a humidifier and saline drops in his nose. Since then Korbyn just keeps getting worse and worse. Last night he slept with my mom so i could get some MUCH NEEDED rest. (ive had maybe 8 hours of sleep in the last 7 days) That didn't work so well because Mommy is so used to having her baby by her side or sleeping on to of her that she couldnt sleep anyways!! This morning he just kept wheezing and coughing and sounded even worse then last night...which was pretty hard to believe...so both Gramma Lynn and Gramma Heidi and I took him to the Emergency room at the Prosser Hospital. Dr. Case said that he had an upper respiratory virus and both of his lungs sounded wheezy just because all of the congestion in his nose is going farther back from getting loosened up by the humidifier. He offered to do an RSV swab and take an X-ray of his lungs but he said that he had seen worse and he though Korbyn would be fine unless he starts gasping for air to bring him back in. He thought he would be fine in a few days when he gets all the crud out so we oppted not to do either of those test. Poor little guy has been running a fever for 4 days and sounds like hes hacking up his lungs when he coughs. I guess we just have to wait it out unless it gets worse. I know its very frustrating for him to not be able to breathe and eat like he wants to (hes eating 2 oz every 3 to4 hours instead of his 6 oz every 2 to 2 1/2 hours) he keeps grabbing his nose like he wants to just get all the crud out and has a few scratches on his nose from that. But, i think its even more frustrating for me to see my baby like this and not be able to do anything besides wait it out.
Hes such a happy baby though that through it all he keeps a smile on his face and has even gained 1 pound since Dr. Lane saw him friday!!
